About the Event

Tanja Olsen is a Norwegian interior architect and painter with a degree from the university in Rio de Janeiro now living in Oslo.

The paintings are inspired by geometric forms which is a strong interior trend in Brazil. There you would always find geometric shapes in tiles, on the floor, furniture textiles, and wall art with warm and vibrant colors.

Art had always been a close hobby of mine, and working with Brazilian architects and university colleagues, art became part of my professional and daily life.  I started customizing art for our interior design projects having to adapt dimensions, themes, colors, and concepts to each client. I painted what our project needed of art, sometimes it was a huge figurative wall art in a hostel while other projects could need digital abstract art.

It took me almost three years to start painting again after my return to Norway and I experienced a small creative block not really knowing where to start over again. I was used to painting for commercial use, and it was the first time I would paint something as my own client. This was quite paralyzing and I had to jump into the creative process in creating art from my own inspirations of trips and thoughts before it would be too scary to start at all.

As I was unsure of where to begin, I decided to play with our most primary forms – triangles, squares, and circles and went back to pick up inspirations from my years in Brazil. This was a good opportunity to combine our two cultures, using the Brazilian geometric art and interior trends with Norwegian color schemes from Jotun."

`Kunstnerisk´ is about exploring and exposing my artistic sides in a creative process, blocked or not blocked. I have realized it's easier to let my creative mind work than not to let it work.

The opening will be on Thursday, August 20th from 7 pm - 9 pm.

The exhibition will then be open from 4 pm - 8 pm, Friday August 21st until Sunday, August 23rd.
